Happy Fourth of July!
I love summer, the sun is out, kids are playing outdoors and our nation’s colors are seen in store windows and decorating porches. There are parades, fireworks and there is always the smell of BBQ drifting throughout neighborhoods and small towns. I knew I had to shoot a mini session celebrating all things summer.
I started planning a watermelon smash and before I knew it I had a cart full of watermelons and sparklers ready to go. My father in law found my husband’s old red wagon and it was the most perfect addition to our shoot.
In case you haven’t been following my instagram, I’m spending the 4th of July in Canton, Illinois. It’s a tiny speck on the map that has all the small town feels that I didn’t know I was missing.
My husband is from here and wanted to give us the All-American 4th of July that he grew up with. I love Hawaii but it just doesn’t have the same apple pie vibe that comes with fields of corn and and front porch sitting.
This vacation has been incredible, I’ve seen another side of my husband through stories and the memories he has shared with me. I spent evenings chasing fireflies barefoot in the grass and playing with our children. We rode bikes, fed geese and spent more time with family than I had in years. The girls have loved their time here with grandma and grandpa. To say they have been spoiled would be an understatement but I’ve loved seeing them so happy. Leaving will be bittersweet, I feel like I’ve found apart of myself in this small town. Our vacation is coming to a close but I have tons of pictures to look back on this time in our family’s lives.
Hayden thoroughly enjoyed herself and by the end of the shoot everything from her hair to her toes were covered in sticky sweet juice. The shoot was a success and I cannot wait to offer these next year!
Kali got in on the fun and was proud to display her American Flag and light sparklers!
I hope you and your family have a great 4th <3
