I want to start this post by saying WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABY?! Being our last, watching Hayden grow has been bittersweet. Every first she has is a last for us. Her first tooth, her first steps, every high five and smile they’re all milestones that we won’t get again. I’ve been diligent in documenting her days but when I step back and look at my toddler who is more child than infant my heart aches a little.
Lets talk the theme of her birthday party. Donuts, they’re more than a cute pinterest trend for my husband and I. When we were dating he would stay over on friday nights (sorry nana) and early the next morning we would go to this tiny donut shop down the road. My roommate, Will and I would sit in our pjs eating donuts and drinking milk, laughing and chatting about the night before and our plans for the weekend. We kept the tradition in small ways, sending donut cards and socks through the mail; I even found a shirt that says “Saturdays are for donuts” and surprised him with it. It’s definitely a part of our story that makes me smile when I look back at our time in California.
When I was pregnant with Hayden we found little ways to incorporate donuts whether it be her halloween costume (she was the cutest pink frosted donut and I was a cop) random outfits I scored off of Etsy and eventually it became the theme for Hayden’s first birthday. Her birthday was months in the making. I started buying decorations in April so my husband wouldn’t notice how much I was spending on, to put it in his words “a party that was more for me than her” Okay, so she wouldn’t remember her party but that’s what pictures are for right??! Anyways, I knew what the theme for her party was going to be before she was born so it’s safe to say I was a tad excited.
Everything from the cutlery to the cookies was donut themed. Sweetnessessity catered our desserts and they were a huge hit. She did a beautiful job with the cake and cookies and they were so good I was half tempted to hide some from our guests. Her cake was amazing and I had no regrets having breakfast cake the next morning. Diet be damned, if I was going to get fat it was going to be on her homemade buttercream frosting.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog, I hope you enjoyed her birthday photos as much as I did taking them! Like I said we spent a ton of time planning her big day so I couldn’t wait to share these with you!
Have a great day,
