Maternity Session on Marine Corps Base Hawaii

Hey it’s me, the inconsistent photo blogger. I just had to come out from under my rock to share this amazing maternity session I shot in August at North Beach on Marine Corps Base Hawaii because… holy cow Jeannie looks like a freaking goddess. I was so proud of how this maternity session turned out. Not only because I was thrilled with the images but it is an amazing feeling to be able to create something in your head and have it come to life. I spent hours searching for this exact dress, thinking of the best location and helping make Jeannie’s dream shoot a reality.Maternity photo shoot marine corps base hawaii kailua oahu storm elaine photography

She was GLOWING her whole session. Hair and makeup were perfection, her daughter was in the sweetest little dress as soon as she stepped out of the car I knew this shoot was going to be perfect.

Look at that smile- she is so excited to be a big sister

I love when siblings join in for maternity sessions. One of my favorite pictures from my own shoot is Kali hugging my belly. It’s important to remind your first born how important they are and to task them with loving and being an integral part of helping with the new baby. It  has helped with my own girls. Kali went from feeling jealous to feeling like she had an important place in the family and seemed to develop a sense of responsibility to her little sister.

North Beach is actually one of my favorite locations, the dark rocks contrast beautifully whether we are planning a sunrise or sunset shoot. The blue in her dress made her seem like a natural extension of the scenery. Let me tell you how I searched for days for this exact color. During her consult, Jeannie showed me a picture of the dress she wanted, just a screen shot from pinterest was all I had to go off of. After what felt like forever of searching for it on my own, I ended up reverse image searching the photo. This led me to more pinterest links, a few blogs and then finally the original blog of the photographer that lives about 2,000 miles away. I was able to find the brand of the dress which was no other than one of my favorite designers, Sew Trendy. I still had a hard time finding the exact cut and color. About an hour of squinting at my phone I found the perfect match. Steel Blue, same style and everything she was hoping for. After rushing ordering the gown and paying for it to be overnighted in order for it to arrive on time, I received the gown ONE DAY before her session. If you were wondering if I was stressing out, the answer is yes, yes I was lol.

The sun was crazy this evening, bright and powerful we had to wait for cloud cover but in a few instances we were blessed with a few rainbow aberrations and natural flares that had me swooning when I looked in the back of my camera.

Hawaii, you never disappoint.

I was beaming at the end of the session, we wrapped it up when the sky opened and began storming. I didn’t care that I was getting soaked as I walked back to my car. I knew I had magic in my camera and couldn’t wait to share it with Jeannie and her family.

Our story doesn’t end here, she purchased our bump to baby package which means I will be meeting little man at the beginning of November for his newborn session. I can’t wait to capture more memories for this family.

Thanks for reading along- I hope to share your story one day,

Storm
